Some weddings become special not because of how much is added to a venue, but because of how thoughtfully the existing space is celebrated. Vaibhavi and Dhananjay’s wedding gave us the rare opportunity to create an entire celebration around their ancestral home in Goa, a place already filled with character and deeply personal memories.
Rather than transforming the property into something unrecognisable, our approach was to enhance its natural beauty. Every function was designed to feel connected to the home, its surroundings and the couple’s story.
A Lush and Playful Haldi
The Haldi was hosted on the property’s beautiful lawn, a space that also held sentimental value for the groom, who had spent a large part of his childhood there.
Since it was an evening celebration, we selected a colour palette that complemented the lush greenery and worked beautifully in the softer evening light. We wanted the décor to feel joyful and vibrant while still sitting naturally within the landscape.
For the main Haldi backdrop, we collaborated with local artisans to create an installation using woven palm leaves. The use of locally sourced, natural materials gave the backdrop a distinctly Goan character while keeping the overall design warm and organic.
The guest list included both Indian and international guests, so we wanted the celebration to offer everyone an immersive Indian experience. We created a lively market-style section featuring a bangle counter, a local pottery artisan and a floral station where the ladies could select fresh flowers for their hair. A tarot card reader added another playful and interactive element to the festivities.
We also designed a dedicated petal station, allowing guests to pick up handfuls of flowers and shower the couple and one another with petals. It became one of the most joyful parts of the celebration and made the ceremony feel spontaneous, intimate and full of colour.
Sangeet by the Beach
With guests travelling to Goa from different parts of the world, we wanted at least one celebration to capture the destination’s unmistakable coastal spirit.
Since the wedding itself could not take place on the beach, we decided to create that experience through the Sangeet. The evening began with cocktails by the sea, allowing guests to relax, take in the setting and enjoy the beautiful transition from sunset into the celebrations.
The intention was to give everyone a taste of Goa while still retaining the energy, colour and cultural richness of an Indian Sangeet. It became the perfect coming together of a destination celebration and a vibrant evening of music, performances and dancing.
A Wedding That Belonged to the Home
For the wedding, our biggest consideration was finding the right spot for the mandap, somewhere it would feel like a natural extension of the ancestral home rather than an external structure placed within it.
We drew inspiration from the architecture and colours of the house itself. The mandap was designed to echo those existing elements, with flowers and carefully selected colours adding softness, celebration and life to the structure.
The property also featured a magnificent swimming pool, which we filled with flower petals. It instantly enhanced the setting and created an unexpected visual moment for the guests. What could have remained a separate architectural feature became an integral part of the wedding décor.
At the entrance, generous floral installations welcomed guests into the celebration. From there, every corner of the property was thoughtfully treated, from smaller details to statement areas within the house. The idea was never to overpower its original personality, but to gently uplift it.
We paid particular attention to the home’s existing architectural details and statement pieces, allowing them to remain visible and become part of the overall design story.
Celebrating a Place Filled With Memories
The guiding thought behind the entire wedding was simple: beautify what already existed.
Instead of bringing in large external structures and covering the property, we worked with its architecture, lawns, pool, textures and personal history. This allowed every celebration to feel immersive and beautifully designed, while still retaining the warmth of a wedding held at home.
For us, this wedding was a reminder that the most meaningful venues are not always conventional ones. Sometimes, the most powerful setting is a familiar backyard, a childhood lawn or a family home that has witnessed generations of memories.
Vaibhavi and Dhananjay’s wedding did not simply take place at their ancestral home, it became a celebration of the home itself.
